About this event
De Cómo Murió el Teatro is a multi-language performance by the Yama Collective, directed by Carlina Derks. The play documents, fictionalizes, and ritualizes the memories of Ecuadorian theater during the pandemic, when stages were empty and the interaction between artists and audiences was replaced by virtual means. Theater has died. Its absence brings a group of actors together secretly in an empty room to offer it a farewell ritual. Nostalgia, humor, and memory turn the play into an urgent Ecuadorian Baroque celebration, where saying goodbye to theater also reaffirms its ability to survive. The production features important figures and collectives from the scene, including El Miche, Juana Guarderas, Gerson Guerra, Clowndestinos, and Dionisios. De Cómo Murió el Teatro in Cuenca as part of the 20th edition of the Festival Escenarios del Mundo, during two weeks of encounters with performing arts.
