About this event
Authors: Two Seagulls (Iva Petroni and Boil Banov) Director: Boil Banov Artist: Yuliana Voikova – Naiman Music: Martin Karov Participating: Zornitsa Konstantinova, Nevena Tsaneva, Evgeni Budinov, Stoyan Pamukov, Tihomir Blagoev, Dimitrina Teneva, Hristo Mutafchiev "Everyone from Europe is ready to wash dishes in America, but to be free, you want America to go to Europe to wash dishes so you can be free. I don't understand you!" This line from the play "The Shipment" clearly positions the theme of the false American dream — a dream wrapped in cellophane, instilled consistently and uncritically, generation after generation. A sugary idea of material well-being that has become an emblem of the good life. Happiness is achievable, as long as it is paid for. You're on welfare - you eat hamburgers freely. You wash dishes - you eat hamburgers even more freely. You drive a truck - you eat hamburgers extremely freely. Freedom in America is guaranteed! And, of course, whoever lives in America is a big deal! So big that he doesn't need to know what's happening outside the promised continent. He doesn't need to know that there are other countries, let alone where they are. He doesn't need to think. And if the American citizen is still forced to think, there is great confusion. Because the eater is unaccustomed to thinking, he is accustomed to experiencing. Look at the endlessly funny and absurd confusions in a classic American family, faced with an unusual choice. So unusual that they even have to find out where the country of Bulgaria is and how many centuries old it is. Boil Banov
